Oil paints are pigments that are bound with a medium of drying oil that produces a brilliant sheen. As the most classic medium
used by all artists, great artists such as Jean Francois Millet, Jean Baptiste Simeon Chardin, Leonardo da Vinci, Andy Warhol, and Pablo Picasso transformed the art of oil painting.
Caring for oil paintings
When you receive an oil painting, it is very likely that it has not completely dried yet. Oil paints can take between a few months to a year to completely dry. If you frame an oil painting under glass, be sure to leave adequate space between the painting and the glass. Keep it out of direct sunlight and do not use any varnish for at least a year. With proper care, an oil painting can last for centuries.
